Up, Up and Away
As you may have noticed by the cover, this is our balloon issue. And this issue is about as balloon as it gets. It starts with our Shop Talk, featuring New York City-based Balloon Saloon. The photos of this buliding’s facade do not do it justice. The shop is a celebration in brick-and-mortar form in the Tribeca neighborhood, and the exteriror shows just that. Read more about the 38-year-old shop on page 8.
Jackie Ochitwa is a balloon artist. Her designs are magical and whimsical and oh-so-adorable. She’s been creating some designs with Qualatex, and she has her videos available on YouTube. On page 12, she teaches retailers how they can utilize her videos to showcase – and sell – their own displays. These are especially helpful while there’s a continued helium shortage so shops can still move their balloon inventory.
Among our product picks in this issue is a compilation of balloons to go along with Valetine’s Day and an Edgar Allan Poe-themed collection of items. The final stop on our balloon tour rests on page 14, where Steven Jones discusses FLOAT convention that’s gearing up for January.
I loved putting this issue together for you. The imagery is bright, sunny and festive with balloons; a perfect way to roud out the end of summer. As always, we’d love to know your thoughts and what else you’d like to see on our pages. Whether you know a great shop that should be highlighted, or have a good theme for product pickts, drop us a line or reach out to us on social media; we want to know what you think!
