Editor’s Letter

Do you remember the popular Choose Your Own Adventure books of the 1980s and 1990s? Each story was written from a second-person point of view, with the reader making choices that determined the main character’s actions in response to the plot and its outcome.

If you weren’t interested in one part of the story or the plot took a twist, you had the option to veer off one path and onto another. The risk might pay off, but, then again, you might not like the result.

The good news? You could always start over and choose something else.

And so it goes with the party industry and, actually, with retail in general. There are plot twists and turns that no one expects, but you simply choose your reaction and rise to the task, figuring out what works for you.

With that in mind, this issue is packed with a little something for everyone and I invite you to choose your own adventure as you please. For example, if you want to know more about fall holiday products, turn to page 38 for our feature. If you decide you need just a little more spice, turn to page 28 for our feature on sexy costumes.

If a Halloween recap’s a path you go down, turn to page 20. If religious party items fit your needs more, flip to page 42 for a story on that.

We have everything from themed goods to trends, from silly to sexy, from product picks to party tips. The moral of the story? You are free to choose your own adventure, and not just with this issue (as I’m sure all of you read it cover to cover anyway, right?), but with the retail paths you choose to go down.

As you flip through the pages of products and ideas, maybe choose a new adventure and see how things work out. If all else fails, you can always look ahead and start a new chapter.

Until next time.
